Zum Inhalt

In "Into The Water" von Paula Hawkins geht es um den Tod von Nel, die im Drowning Pool ertrunken ist. Aufgrund des Todes und der Hinterbliebenen Tochter Lena, kehrt Jules an ihren Heimatort zurück, an den sie keine guten Erinnerungen hat. Jules kann nicht glauben, dass sich ihre Schwester umgebracht hat und die Ermittlungen sind in vollem Gange. Der so genannte Drowning Pool wurde schon mehreren Frauen zum Verhängnis und auch in Jules Vergangenheit spielt er eine große Rolle. Ihre Schwester war schon immer von dem Drowning Pool fasziniert und wollte seine Geheimnisse in einem Buch ans Licht bringen, womit sie sich keine Freunde geschaffen hat.
Was hat es mit dem Drowning Pool auf sich? Hat Nel sich wirklich umgebracht oder steckt etwas ganz anderes dahinter?

Meine Meinung

Das Cover von "Into The Water" gefällt mir wahnsinnig gut. Es ist super aufeinander abgestimmt und passt perfekt zum Inhalt. Viele Leser, mit denen ich an einer Leserunde teilgenommen habe, empfanden die Perspektive als zweideutig. Die einen sehen AUF das Wasser und die anderen sehen AUS dem Wasser heraus. Ich bin ein Betrachter von außen und schaue definitiv auf das Wasser.
Die Schrift hat leichte Erhebungen, die wie Wasser schimmern, der Rest ist matt gehalten und fühlt sich angenehm samtig an. Es ist wirklich toll gemacht!
Der Name der Autorin auf dem Cover ist in dezentem Silber gehalten, sowie auf dem Buchrücken, das hat mir sehr gut gefallen.
Die Beschreibung auf der Rückseite wurde mit der Farbwahl (blautönte und weiß) auch perfekt auf das Cover und das Thema abgestimmt.
Ich habe die englische Taschenbuch Version, die etwas größer als normale Taschenbücher ist.

Der Schreibstil von Paula Hawkins bedarf einer kurzen Eingewöhnung, ist dann aber einfach perfekt.
Sie hat jedes Kapitel einer anderen Person und somit einer anderen Sichtweise gewidmet. So lernt man viel über die einzelnen Charaktere, ist aber anfangs kurz verwirrt, bis man sich dann daran gewöhnt hat.
Was mir sehr gut gefallen hat, war die Erzählweise, die bei der Protagonistin Jules verwendet wurde. Jule hat in ihren Gedanken oft ihre tote Schwester direkt angesprochen, wodurch Paula Hawkins noch einmal verdeutlicht hat, dass Jules den Tod noch nicht richtig verarbeiten und wahrhaben kann.
Dadurch, dass viele Sichtweisen und verschiedene Personen im Vordergrund stehen, bekommt man durchgehend wahnsinnig viele Informationen wodurch permanent neue Fragen entstehen, was das Buch für mich richtig spannend und interessant gemacht hat.
Bei "Into The Water" liegt der Fokus eindeutig auf den Charakteren, Orte werden nicht sehr ausführlich beschrieben, was ich aber nicht als negativen Punkt empfunden habe.
Die Atmosphäre war auch ohne diese Beschreibungen düster und mysteriös und hat dem Leser viel Freiraum in der eigenen Fantasie gelassen.

Inhaltlich hat mich "Into The Water" auch überzeugt. Es handelt sich zwar nicht um einen gängigen Thriller, da ich beim Lesen keinen "thrill"-Moment hatte, dennoch war durchgehend Spannung vorhanden. Man wird bis zum Schluss mit sehr vielen Handlungen und Informationen auseinandergesetzt und stellt sich während dem Lesen sehr viele Fragen. Paula Hawkins lenkt hier den Leser wirklich toll und bringt ihn zum nach- und mitdenken.
Zum Inhalt möchte ich nichts verraten, da es einige unerwartete Wendungen gab, vorallem das Ende kam für mich sehr überraschend, da ich wirklich nicht damit gerechnet hatte.

Fazit 

Eine eindeutige Empfehlung von mir. Man muss sich jedoch darüber im Klaren sein, dass es sich bei "Into The Water" um eine Mischung aus Thriller und Krimi handelt. Mir hat es gut gefallen!

In "Into The Water" by Paula Hawkins we have a story based around the death of Nel, who drowned in the Drowning Pool. Through the death and the bereaved daughter, Jules returns to her hometown where she is haunted by bad memories. Jules won't believe in the suicide of her sister, the investigations in full swing. The so called Drowning Pool doomed not just one woman and even in Jules past it looms large. Her sister was fascinated by the Drowning Pool all along and wanted to unveil its secrets in a book, that didn't bring her any friends.
What's the secret about the Drowning Pool? Did Nel really commit suicide or is there something else behind?

My opinion

I really love the Cover from "Into The Water". It's well-matched and fits perfect for the content of the book. I read the book together with some people on lovelybooks.de, some of which found the perspective of the cover double-barreled. Some of them looking ONTO the water while others were looking OUT of the water. I definitly was one looking ONTO the water.

The font has little uprisings that are shimmering like water and the rest of the book is matt and feels velvety which is really lovely. The whole design is so well done, I love it!

The name of the author is written in a soft silver on the cover as well as on the bookspine, looks really nice to me.

The description on the back also fits perfectly with the cover and the content due to this color selection of blue tones and white.

I own the english Paperback which is a bit larger than normal Paperbacks at least in Germany - I don't know the average size in other countries.

The style of writing from Paula Hawkins needs a little settling in, after that it's just perfect.

She wrote every chapter with the perspective of another person so you can learn a lot about the characters and their point of view. At the beginning this is a little bit confusing but after adapting to it, it's just fine.

What I really liked was the narrative style, chosen for the chapters with Jules in the focus. In her thoughts Jules often spoke directly to her dead sister, that showed pretty good that she hasn't processed the death of Nel and she still can't believe it. Due to the perspectives of all the different persons you get so much informations which leads to so many questions during the book and this is something that made the book really interesting and gripping for me.

The focus in "Into The Water" definitely lays on the characters, the descriptions of places aren't that detailed. That wasn't a negative point for me since the whole atmosphere still was really dark and mysterious with a lot of space for your own imagination.

The content from this book really convinced me. While it's not that typical thriller ( I hadn't a really "thrill-moment") it's permanent really grapping and good. Until the end of the book you deal with so many plots and informations, bringing up even more questions. Paula Hawkins is really good with leading the reader through the book and getting them to think for themselves.

I won't blab anything about the content since there are a lot of plot twists. The end was so surprising for me I didn't expect it at all!

Upshot 

This book is definitely a recommendation from me. But you need to be aware of this book being a mix of thriller and crime. I personally really liked it!
